Population Estimates and Forecasts

Service districts, utility companies, marketers, and other businesses and public agencies often need population estimates and forecasts for the areas they serve or markets they target. Estimates prepared by the Census Bureau and state or local agencies are often inadequate for geographic areas that don’t align with county, city, or other legal boundaries. FLO Analytics uses data from public and private sources and spatial analysis to provide estimates and forecasts of population and housing variables for custom geographic areas of any size.

K–12 Enrollment Forecasting

FLO Analytics has partnered with districts across the nation to prepare long-range enrollment forecasts by grade and by individual school. FLO recognizes that each district and the communities that they serve are unique, and that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to forecasting. Whether forecasts are needed for budgeting, facilities planning, or attendance area boundary revisions, FLO tailors each project to a district’s specific needs. Communication with district staff about programs, policies, and historical enrollment data is essential, as is compiling housing and demographic data and interviewing planners from local jurisdictions. We provide results including tables, charts, and text providing context for historical trends and illustrating forecast assumptions. Reporting may also include in-person or virtual presentations at public board and committee meetings or internal staff meetings.

Housing Demographic Studies

By compiling demographic data from diverse sources into custom reports or interactive applications, we can provide information to public agencies to guide housing policies, or to private or non-profit developers making investment decisions. Sources include custom tabulations of Census Bureau data such as income, household size, age, ethnicity, and homeownership; local and regional housing and population forecasts; administrative records including building permit and tax assessor data; and housing cost trends.

Redistricting

We are experienced cartographers, demographers, census data experts, and public engagement professionals ready to support your redistricting process, no matter how simple or complex it may be. Work with FLO Analytics and you’ll be using the best analytical methods to ensure your redistricting initiative is transparent, data-driven, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations.

Environmental Justice Assessments

Demographic analysis is an important component of environmental justice initiatives that aim to identify and address the disproportionate impacts of the environment on marginalized communities. Our population geographers and analysts are experienced in the identification of affected communities via the analysis of population characteristics, including age, race, income, education, and other socioeconomic factors. Clear and concise reporting allows us to quickly compare results for areas of interest to county, state, or national benchmarks to identify disparities. Conducting demographic analysis on commonly used statistical areas  leads to seamless integration with the assessment of existing environmental conditions and health impacts.
