The New Lenox School District (NLSD) needed ten-year student enrollment forecasts to help determine whether attendance area boundary changes for primary, intermediate, and/or junior high schools would be needed in the future. FLO completed a student enrollment assessment that integrated the NLSD’s student information system data, school locations, and attendance area boundaries into FLO’s systems for analysis and visualization.
FLO also completed a population and demographic analysis, including birth rates and the population of women of childbearing age and a land use analysis of planned residential development. Using the student enrollment assessment and the demographic and land use analysis information, FLO created annual student enrollment forecasts for a ten-year period. The forecasts helped the district determine where student growth should be expected in the next ten years, and whether primary, intermediate, and junior high schools would be under, at, or over capacity.
Based on the student enrollment forecasts, FLO determined that the NLSD did not need to make school boundary changes to balance capacity within and among schools but could make changes to improve student proximity to schools and to efficient transportation to reduce the amount of time students would be on buses. FLO used the student enrollment forecasts to create a series of enrollment modeling scenarios that helped the district see the potential areas for these improvements.
"The impressive FLO Analytics team of professionals provided our school district a comprehensive enrollment study that was thorough and easy for the Board of Education to understand. FLO Analytics provided exactly the type of data needed for future financial planning."
