Equity Analysis
We have worked closely with school districts across the country to help them determine school boundaries and school program placements that ensure that schools and programs are inclusive and equitable and reflect the demographics of the communities they serve.
Our approach to projects for school districts is based on three important principles:
- Technical analysis should be transparent, understandable, and credible.
- Strategic and authentic community engagement will build buy-in and support for change. Our community engagement efforts focus on clarity, transparency, equity, inclusivity, and growth. We strive to learn what is important from district leaders, community constituents, and their children. We then center our efforts on how we can equitably solve problems for community members through data-informed planning.
- Success means an improvement of the student experience for all students, especially for Black, Indigenous, and other students of color.
Practicing using these principles leads to communities that feel engaged, empowered, and motivated by the process and the possible outcomes. FLO endeavors to make project outcomes as equitable as possible. We have a track record of working with school districts to address equity issues and we continually refine the way we engage diverse stakeholder groups to ensure that engagement activities are authentic, meaningful, and impactful to the community.
